Ctenopharynx pictus "Gome"


Ctenopharynx pictus is mainly living on depths between 7 and 30 meters in rocky environments with lots of sediment and they can be found in entire Lake Malawi. These examples were caught in the neighbourhood of Gome Rock.


The males of these species can grow to about 13 cm in the lake, females grow to about 11 cm. In the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding.


In an aquarium Ctenopharynx pictus is behaving reasonable tolerant against other inhabitants, against equal species they can behave very agressive.
You can best keep this species with multiple females and other species from equal environments, in a large tank with a lot of swimming space.


In the lake Ctenopharynx pictus are feeding themselves with small invertebrates which they suck out of the sediment. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
